Positive Attitude - The Key To True Happiness

By Madonna Jeffries

What is a positive attitude? Being secure and happy with your inner-self is the beginning of the process. A healthy self-image radiates love and assurance and makes the people who are around you experience a similar vibration. Having an optimistic mental state is a fundamental component for achieving success in every area of your life. Your disposition dictates how you approach your life and is mirrored in your work, business ventures, sporting efforts and relationships.

To accomplish your desires in life it is necessary that you have a winner's attitude. People that we applaud for achieving prominence would not have achieved their desires by living their life with a dispassionate disposition. The primary elements for a triumphant life are trusting in yourself, being able to visualize your success and living with with a positive attitude.

A positive attitude achieves an expectant outlook on life. You will feel joyful, healthier and more energetic. Your belief in yourself and your talents will be magnified and by embracing an open and positive attitude your consciousness will be receptive to the opportunities that will start to come your way. Often when people have a negative attitude they become entirely preoccupied with their problems and are unable to see the opportunities that are right in front of them. Once you train your consciousness to automatically embark upon a positive attitude your problems will not be as momentous and you will be able to attend to them calmly.

By nature we all delight in spending time with positive people. They make us feel great about life by lifting our spirits. Attitude, whether it's positive of negative, is extremely infectious - make the choice to spend your time with positive people and your spirit will take on the same vibration. When you jump into your life with a positive attitude your body will be surrounded with a light energy which will magnetically draw people towards you.

By absolutely believing that your dreams will become a reality you have within you the ability to be, do and have whatever you desire - connect this with a positive attitude and you will be irrepressible. In 1903 a renowned New York engineering professor had said that it would be impossible for man to fly. The Wright Brothers piloted the world's first powered airplane a fortnight later. The Wright Brothers had a definite advantage - they positively believed that their goal was achievable!

Don't let fear of failure hold you back from pursuing your dreams - have faith in your dreams and face the world with a positive attitude. We all have the potential to soar to great heights if we take on a positive attitude like the Wright Brothers.

GAS Up Your Positive Attitude

By Leanne Hoagland-Smith

Do you truly understand the power of attitudes? Many are enthralled with The Secret which when rendered down reaffirms the wise words of Henry Ford. Whether you think you can or you think you cannot, either way you are right.

The Secret is all about attitudes. How your habits of thoughts react to every day events.

You might had heard about positive attitudes from individuals like Napoleon Hill in his classic Think and Grow Rich to Dr. Cooper in his work Get Out of Your Own Way. Our attitudes are with us 24/7.

So are you attitudes where you need them to be to get you to where you want to go?

We all need help in maintaining positive attitudes. What I have learned is that when individuals use Goals, Affirmations and Self Leadership skills, they are better equipped to maintain consistently positive attitudes.

So why are goals important to keeping positive attitudes? Have you ever head the phrase Success breeds success? Goals are the vehicle that allow us to move from where we are now to where we want to go.

Affirmations help us to keep those positive thoughts coming and coming. They also serve another purpose. They keep negative thoughts from coming and coming.

Human beings due to caring parents have been conditioned negatively. All the don'ts in their earlier lives develop into Don't Attitudes. Affirmations help turn those Don't Attitudes to positive Do Attitudes.

Last, but not least, are Self Leadership Skills. Some people may call these strong interpersonal skills. Whatever you call them, unless you can lead yourself first, you will be unable to lead anyone else. People follow people with positive attitudes. You need to develop those self leadership skills that will help you maintain a positive attitude.

By combing goals, affirmations and self leadership skills all together, you will definitely have great positive attitudes. Remember, a successful life is for those who can answer the important question: Do I want to do what I need to do to get to where I need to go? Life is truly about having and maintaining great positive attitudes.

Positive Attitude: Develop and Maintain - It is The First Step to Success

Attitude is the word that is applied to everybody regardless of age, sex, race and profession. Be it a student or executive, maid or teacher, employee or employer, attitude is the keyword. Without positive attitude, one can never become a good teacher, student or boss. That is how important having a positive attitude is.

Before we embark on our road to success, we must start to observe our thinking that is going on in our mind. Is it positive thinking that is going on in our mind or it is the negative thinking? It is so important to develop a positive attitude at the start of our journey to success and long the way to success to maintain the positive attitude. When we do that, then we will have the stamina and the motivation to last the whole journey.
Whether you attract success or failure really depends on your attitude. Those who focus their attention on the good qualities that they have and take time to relish in their achievements, no matter how small they are - will inevitably attract success.
One fact is clear -- in life we will fail more often than we succeed. But those who continue to maintain a positive attitude, enjoy success, never give up and always stay focused on success - can achieve their dreams.

Unfortunately, most people tend to focus their thoughts on what they did wrong, what they failed at, why things didn't work out, why they're not good enough. These negative thoughts are sure to attract failure.

So it is so important to develop and maintain a positive attitude in order for us to continue our journey to success. Remember that positive attitude attract success and negative attitude attracts failure. Having a positive attitude is only the beginning as the next action will be taking action. You can have all the positive attitude in the world but if you do not take any action nothing will happen. So have a positive attitude and take action today

Powerful Leadership - A Positive Attitude in Leaders Produces Results in More Ways Than One!

By B. K. Smith

Leadership skills are valuable and always worth improving. As a leader grows and develops, it not only helps improve their life, but the lives of those around them. A key skill to develop and maintain is a positive attitude.

Why? Men and women rise and fall everyday because of their attitude.

"Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude." -- Thomas Jefferson

Positive Attitude - The Critical Factor in Leadership

If you really want to go anywhere as a leader, you have to examine your attitude! Whatever attitude you accept at this time is a critical factor in determining the success or failure of your future.

Too often people never come to a place of leadership where God wants them. Or they don't produce the results that are expected, because of a negative attitude. A leader may want God to use them, but He is saying "No" because of their sour, nasty attitude. A negative attitude will hinder a leaders potential.

And don't be one that points the finger of blame at others, especially as a leader. Each persons attitude is their own responsibility.

Often times, people with bad attitudes don't know that they have one. But if you are a leader and find yourself pointing the finger of blame at others regularly, that may be a great reason to examine the condition of your own thoughts and heart.

Positive Attitude - Helping Leaders Produce Positive Results

Understand that the attitude a leader has toward how they view and handle things, will determine the results they produce. As long as a leader is viewing things negatively, they are going to get negative results.

Leaders should not let other people govern their production and outcome. Leaders must have an "I can" attitude. Many people miss opportunities and promotions that God has for them because they let someone else determine their attitude.

Of course as a leader, challenges are always going to come and attempt to get you to accept a bad or negative attitude. But remember it is a critical factor to have a positive, 'I can' attitude about what you are doing in order to produce positive results.

The results not only show up in the life of the leader, but in the life of those being led. This is the case whether it is a leadership role in a family, ministry, or business. You can make a difference.

"When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked rule, the people mourn." - Proverbs 29:2

Bottom line: A Leaders attitude will create results. It is up to the leader to choose the attitude they will put on for the results they desire. A leadership role should require a positive attitude and one that produces positive results.

May you be a leader that maintains a positive attitude and a life of growing prosperity!

The Effect of a Positive Attitude on Our Lives

By Aakash Shah

Attitude is a state of mind. It is not something we can touch or see in a person. Attitude is visible in the manner of a person in a particular situation. If you are a person with a positive attitude then it will help you a lot. A positive attitude will help you stay calm both mentally and physically. A positive outlook will help you find good opportunities in a situation that will make other people lose hope completely. Instead of focusing on the problems, a positive attitude will help you focus on finding the solution of the problem.

It is a fact that you will be able to achieve the goals you have set for yourself only if you spend your time trying to find a solution for the problems. If you become negative start keep whining about the problems in your life then your goals will never be achieved by you. Keeping a positive attitude is not a very difficult thing. You can easily create a positive thinking system in your mind that focuses on the solution and not on the problems.

You should be happy about what is right in your life instead of crying about all that is wrong in it. You will find that all the successful people in the world have positive attitude in them. It is not like that they never had any obstacles in their way of success but they dared to fight with those problems with a positive mindset and overcame their problems.

They fought those problems and were able to recover from the setbacks and failures they saw. For a normal person, it almost looks like that they had some magic wand that they used to make things work according to them. But the truth is we all have that magic wand among us. The name of that magic is positive attitude. Now it depends on you whether you want to use this magic or just want to whine about your situation.

Our brain often forgets the situations we face in our lives but it remember our mindset and emotions during that situation forever. Often such emotions get transformed in our actions when we face a problem or situation in life. It can be a new situation but similar to the one we have experienced before or it could be a completely new situation but it may ignite the same emotions in us. For instance, a student that has failed an exam in the early stages of his life may forget the reason of his failure or may even forget about the exam all together. But he will remember the feeling of failure he felt at that time for the rest of his life.

This is where the positive attitude comes in play. Positive attitude helps us overcome those feelings. If you keep a negative attitude then your brain will remind of those feelings of failure, each time even a remote possibility of failure arises in front of you. But a positive attitude will make you see beyond that situation and instead of feeling sad and disheartened by those feelings you will be able to overcome them.

These types of feelings can only be conquered by the people with positive attitude and those of you who do not have that quality will be stuck in that examination room forever. Every one of you is born with the ability to see the positive side of things but only few practice this ability. With a positive attitude you can achieve everything you want in life. A positive attitude is the answer to every problem in life. Therefore go ahead and achieve your goals with the right attitude.

Positive Attitude - A Source of Energy For the Soul

By Aakash Shah

A person with a positive attitude is always more healthy and energetic. Now, you may ask what is the relation between one's health and his attitude? Well, there is a very important relation. A positive attitude is as important for our health as a healthy diet. Just like the food we eat keeps our body strong, a positive attitude keeps our mind strong and healthy. Being mentally strong is as important as being physically strong. Your mind should be completely active in order to keep your body active. You can do this only if your attitude is positive. If you think positively about yourself and life, you will find everything to be easy and achievable. And you will also find yourself capable of solving and overcoming any problem in life. This will make you feel much happier. A happier person is obviously a healthier person. If you keep telling yourself to have a positive attitude then you will feel much better about your surroundings and the world will look like a happier place to you.

But, suppose you are facing some major problems in life. The problem can be in any aspect of your life, for instance, loss in a business or in career, problems in personal relationships etc. Such type of situations can make any person stressed. Most of us will get disappointed by such circumstances and start focusing on the problem only. But if you keep a positive attitude in such a situation then you can access the problem much better.

A positive attitude will make you concentrate on finding a solution to the problem instead of the problem itself. With the right attitude, you will be able to focus all of your energy on solving the problem. It will also help you stay calm in the face of adversaries as you have the confidence to fight them. A positive attitude gives you the guts to see the problem as a challenge and not an obstacle. If you see the world with a positive outlook, only then you will be able to enjoy the true beauty of it. You will find your self more enthusiastic and energetic towards life.

Hence, a positive attitude is a great source of energy for us. Once you adopt this attitude and make it a habit of always thinking positively, you will realize the benefits of it. You will clearly understand that how all the successful people in the world became who they are today.

Positive attitude gives us the confidence to live our lives much better. If you keep your attitude positive, you will see yourself reaching the heights which you have only dreamed till now. You will gain a sense of satisfaction towards yourself. Therefore, in order to get the energy of a successful person, you must adopt their attitude. And that is a positive attitude.

Excellent Tips on Developing a Positive Attitude

By Wil Dieck

William James, the founder of American Psychology once said, "The most important discovery of our time is that we can alter our lives by altering our attitude." Zig Ziglar, motivational speaker extraordinaire said it this way, "Your attitude will determine your altitude in life". In other words your attitude determines how far you'll go in life. Your attitude can make or break you.

A positive mental outlook can help you achieve optimal success. Having a positive mental attitude helps you better cope with life's challenges. When life puts you to the test, a positive attitude can help you find your inner strength and overcome adversity. Your positive attitude just might be your winning edge. A study by Harvard University showed that 85% of the reasons for success and accomplishment were because of attitude and only 15% because of technical knowledge and expertise. What this study demonstrates is that it doesn't always matter if you have the tools, skills, knowledge, or resources, the right mental attitude can get you through tough times and help you come out on top.

On the other hand, if you have an attitude filled with a negative perspective it will make everything in your life much harder. Ask any Olympic athlete why they won their event. They'll tell you that they expected to win and that is why they won. This is a great lesson for us all. You can't win when you go into the contest prepared to lose! If you expect to do well, if you have a positive, expecting the best attitude, your winning thoughts will help you succeed.

The Law of Cause and Effect

Throughout my life I have read about cause and effect. You can read about this in depth in the Book, The Secret. What you expect you get. It's important to realize that for every effect in your life, there's a specific cause. This means that for you to change your future for the better, you must first alter your thoughts in the present. By directing your thoughts in a positive direction, you can control these causes and change your effects or outcomes.

Thoughts are like seeds in the mind. For every positive seed you plant, your thoughts will grow and reward you with a positive harvest. Negative seeds have the exact opposite effect. They'll grow, but result in a spoiled and fruitless crop. They'll also grow and grow until they crowd out positive thoughts and leave you thinking only of negativity and failure. You can't plant negative seeds in your mind and expect positive results. You mind just doesn't work that way.

Successful people all have one trait in common. They expect to succeed. They think success. Successful people vividly visualize their goals and take the action steps necessary to make them happen.

On the other hand, unsuccessful people spend their time dwelling on the negative. They use their time and energy complaining, and worrying about things that are unimportant. They "major in the minors". All this negativity does is waste time and energy that you could be channel toward achieving your goals.

Practice Makes Perfect

As you hone your positive thinking skills you'll develop the mental attitudes of a winner. This will allow you to be better able to overcome obstacles and challenges without giving up. No matter how disappointing things may get or how wholeheartedly others may try to discourage you, your winning attitude will make you unstoppable!

As you develop your positive outlook you will find that you are able to focus on your goals with tunnel vision. This focus will eliminate negative distractions and will keep you on your chartered course to success.

How you think is a learned process. Train your mind to focus on the good. If you need help with focusing on the positive read my article on keeping a gratitude journal. Another thing you can do is develop a positive mantra or affirmation that helps you overlook the negative and uncover the power of optimism in your life.

How to Train Your Mind

In order to make your mind think consistent, positive, winning thoughts you need training. Just as we train our bodies for peak performance, we must also train our minds by coaching ourselves to think winning thoughts. You need to put yourself on a mental positive fitness regimen.

One of they ways to do this is by using the NLP technique of "re-framing". Re-framing is looking at challenges as opportunities instead of obstacles. A problem is only a problem if you allow it to be one. A challenge, on the other hand, is an opportunity to learn and improve. So if you search for solutions, you'll find them.

As you internalize this mindset, you'll develop a winning attitude for a lifetime. This attitude will help you reap the rewards of true success and happiness.

A Positive Attitude Creates a Positive Attitude

By Gary M. Miller

Just as energy creates more energy, a positive attitude creates a positive attitude. So in effect, no matter how bad a situation may seem, you can make it better simply by pretending to have a positive attitude - even if you do not feel positive.

A positive attitude affects your own mindset, as well as the mindsets of the people around you. Therefore, even if you are just pretending to have a positive attitude, the people around you will be affected to the point where they develop a positive attitude in relation to the situation. This positive attitude will clear their thinking, and help them make better decisions in relation to the problem at hand - which helps you out as well, and helps your false positive attitude to become real as well.

That pretend positive attitude will also have a great deal of positive affect on anyone that you need to deal with that could be a solution to your problem as well - even if they are not directly involved in solving the problem. For instance, if your business is on the verge of collapse, and you needed to visit your banker to get a loan to carry the business through the financial crisis, you would not want to walk into his office crying and complaining about how bad business is. Instead, you would want to walk in with a smile on your face, and tell him positive things about the business and the plans for the future, so he can see that you have not given up, and he can see that there is a viable plan.

Pretending to have a positive attitude is not permission to tell untruths, however. The people that are involved in helping to resolve a problem must be told the truth of the circumstances. The point is to try to portray a positive attitude that a solution will be found, and to let your team know that you are not giving up, that you do not believe the situation is hopeless, and the situation will be resolved somehow - even if you do not really believe any of that yourself.

Furthermore, you can fool yourself into having a positive attitude as well. By pretending to have a positive attitude, you portray it for so long that it becomes a habit - a learned response. Without even realizing it, the positive attitude that you portray each day becomes real. When this happens, most people do not even remember that they were pretending in the first place!

Watch Out for that Positive Attitude

By Alison Finch

I'm going to begin on a positive note, and with a couple of rather bold statements.

Each and every one of us possesses a positive attitude somewhere inside us.

If you're not tapping into your positive attitude right now, and don't know where it's hiding, this article is going to help you find it!

And, let me reassure you right away, I'm not simply going to twitter on about putting a brave face on adversity and smiling through the pain. Telling yourself, over and over, that "I'm OK" is pretty meaningless if you're not. I'll leave those sorts of recommendations to others, but not before I point out why they usually do more harm than good.

In my view, a positive attitude is not much use when it's applied like make-up, or like paint over a fragile eggshell. A positive attitude is something deep down inside you - in the core of your being - and it's there to be used, actively and wisely, to make your life better.

If you've looked around much on the Internet, you'll know that there is a "wealth" of advice about the power of positive thinking. But I find myself feeling compelled to enclose "wealth" in inverted commas, because a lot of it is worthless (not all of it, of course) and some of it is rubbish!

Isn't "rubbish" being a bit harsh?

I have to confess, I did reflect on whether this statement was overly aggressive. I could have been more reticent and called it "questionable" or something like that. But I wanted to convey to you my personal frustration with any philosophy that is based on an avoidance of the truth. And I wanted to get your attention, because this is a critical statement:

Pretending something isn't happening does not make your life better!

Let's look at this in a bit more detail...

Questionable advice (and a bit of rubbish!)

To clear the way for discussing a positive attitude that works, let's take a quick look at some recommended "positive thinking" that is flawed. You can find variations on each of these bullet-points all over the Internet, and you may even have heard one or two of them from your friends and others who would presume to have your best interests at heart.

* nothing is sufficiently important for you to get angry about it - just let things wash over you Anger can take many forms, most of which are destructive and unpleasant. You see this sort of anger in children and those who have never quite grown out of being children. It is usually an impulsive (and illogical) extension of a sense of frustration that things are not going their way. But anger in its "adult" sense is a powerful emotion that arises when a principle that you hold dear is violated through some sort of injustice. In that case, your sense of anger tells you that you care and helps you find the energy and motivation to do something constructive to put things right. As a human being, you cannot simply let everything wash over you unless you have stopped caring about outcomes.
* there's good in everyone if you look hard enough A very dear friend says that he was often told this by his parents. In middle-age he had begun to question why some people made you look so hard! And, by the way, historians have considerable evidence that Adolf Hitler liked dogs. This was pointed out to me in justification of the "good in everyone" argument, by a supposedly reputable psychotherapist to whom I was once speaking, although I must confess she is no longer in my address book. Yes, I can accept he might have liked dogs, but is that in any way meaningful in the context of his other failings?
* don't judge people I have a small mental list of favourite absurd statements. Near the top is "she's such a good friend because she never judges me!" If you don't judge someone you have no opinion of them or their actions. You could have no right to like or dislike anything they did or didn't do! There is no doubt you DO judge people, the question is whether you listen to and act wisely upon that judgement or simply let it "wash over you". Judging someone based on your knowledge of him or her is a sensible and logical thing, while pre-judging an individual based on racial or other stereotypes is clearly ridiculous.
* always find forgiveness in your heart, no matter what the crime Forgiveness carries with it a sense of writing off the past as if it didn't happen. Indeed, some years ago people would refer to "forgiving a debt" in the way we now claim to "write it off". So, I can forgive my son Leo if he breaks something accidentally through the exuberance of being eight years old. Last week he broke a window with a particularly energetic swing of his prized two-foot miniature golf club, but his remorse was genuine and I don't feel a need to take account of the breakage in my future interactions with him. I can literally forget it (which reminds me, I still need to get that pane fixed!) But if someone consciously and deliberately lied to me about an important issue, the betrayal would stay with me forever. It would doubtless make sense for me to move on with my life and deal with the consequences of that betrayal in a positive way, but I don't imagine I would ever reach a point where it was forgotten or where I felt indifferent about the fact that it occurred.
* repeat positive affirmations every day and they will change your life If the positive affirmations aren't actually true, the only way they can change your life is to take you further and further away from reality. That's the key - look for the truth in what you're telling yourself: if it's true you can believe it; if you believe it you can act on it; if you can act on it you can make things better.
* don't read a newspaper or listen to the news on TV as it will only depress you There are many variations on this particular theme, but all of them basically tell you not to listen to bad news. But life all around you is influenced by REAL news - good and bad - and you will always make better decisions if the decisions you're making take place in the real world, not some fluffy-cushion fantasy. After all, could any of us really claim that we'd be living a more fulfilled and worthwhile life if we hadn't heard of 9/11 or the subsequent terrorist bombings in Madrid and London? What planet would we be living on?

A better way (in fact, it's foolproof!)

I used to work for a man who would habitually classify people as "glass half-full" or "glass half-empty" types, according to how they would supposedly describe identical volumes of water. I'm sure you know how the "logic" runs: the person seeing a half-full glass sees an opportunity ahead, whereas the other is a defeatist who sees resources draining away to nothing. This always struck me as rather nonsensical. The truth is, you'd be perfectly correct in describing the situation either way, and the imagined vessel in the metaphor gives no clue as to whether you are likely to have more or less water in the future.

A person with a genuinely positive attitude looks beyond the "snapshot" situation, because he or she is always striving to bring the best out of whatever is going on in the real world. A genuinely positive attitude requires some understanding of a situation, so that informed choices can be made that give the best chance of a good outcome.

To have a positive attitude you first have to possess positive qualities that you can use effectively and in various ways depending on the circumstances in which you find yourself. The great news is that you already have these qualities, because they're a part of our basic human nature.

Using these qualities comes more naturally to some than others. That's partly because we're all unique and partly because our individual circumstances may have influenced (positively or negatively) our belief in our ability to affect our own lives. Certainly, if your self-esteem is low it is much harder to focus on the positive qualities that you possess, but help is at hand and that's one of the reasons I built this website!

A positive attitude can become a natural habit for you, even if you don't consider that you've ever had a positive attitude in the past. You can learn how to achieve this, not by some sort of "act of faith" like repeating a positive affirmation over and over, but by taking practical steps in the real world.

Quite simply, you need to cultivate a number of your qualities, bit by bit, day by day, and there's help at hand if you need some "how to" advice.

Here are five qualities I'd like to highlight for you. I chose these in particular because they each contribute significantly to a positive attitude and they're easy for you to remember because they all begin with a "C"!

Curiosity

Curiosity is what motivates us to find out about things, and if we find out about things we can make better decisions because those decisions have a sound foundation. Things usually become less frightening if we begin to understand them better, so allow and encourage your curiosity to let you try new approaches.

Creativity

We all have an imagination, and we can all put it to good effect in examining possible ways to bring about an improvement in our lives. If thinking about the future frightens you, it's likely that your imagination habitually looks for negative possibilities. You can re-train it to look for positives instead. Just start with some gentle experimentation, and find opportunities to say things like "I have an idea...", "what if we...", or even "erm... there must be a better way, so let's look for it together".

Courage

If we allow our fears to overwhelm our desires then we can find ourselves freezing to inactivity while mentally running away, both of which lower our confidence and diminish our self-esteem. Courage is the key to overriding those fears and living life to the full, and the more you use it the easier it gets to use it again because you accumulate evidence to suggest using your courage is the right thing to do. Living in fear is often worse than a painful consequence that may arise from taking a calculated risk. When you're used to using your courage you can actually find that the amount of pleasure you experience rises, even if you occasionally fail.

Here's a simple example: if you're so scared of a visit to the dentist that you put it off until your mouth is in agony then you might live through months of fear, apprehension and foreboding, and still end up with lots of pain at the end. Whereas, if you kept a regular dental appointment, all you'd have to endure is a little nervous anxiety on the day. Tapping into your courage is the same as tapping into a source of pleasure, so have a go today - you won't regret it.

I chose this example because I was well into my adult years here in the UK before I discovered that not all trips to the dentist needed to be painful. Actually, I don't think it was courage that was my problem, but if I had used some curiosity and creativity at an earlier age, I might have decided to try to locate a more competent dentist!

Communication

Few things can bring about positive change more quickly than good communication. If you struggle to put your own ideas and feelings into words, or you sometimes suffer from misunderstandings, then we can help. A positive attitude can be infectious, and it carries most readily through conversation. So try to find opportunities to speak with other people whom you think have a positive attitude, and you'll find it boosts your own!

Commitment

If you've got this far in this article, you've shown some commitment to making things better for yourself. Now you need to decide whether to go further and make real, sustainable improvements in your life by putting into practice what we've talked about here. Commitment can sound like a scary word, but it is actually your powerful ally. It will liberate you from feelings of self-doubt, because it will help you to bounce back, time after time on your road to improvement.

So, make some commitments now. Get off the pity-pot if you're on it, DO something actively to boost your self-esteem, and tap into that positive attitude deep down inside you by developing the core qualities I've listed above.

Tips for Maintaining a Positive Attitude

By Robert Kokoska

Highly successful people exhibit an impeccable attitude of positive behavior and there is nothing these people can't achieve in their life. There is absolutely nothing they cannot aspire to be and there is simply nothing they cannot possess! These people are the masters of positive attitude, a self realized energy that propels them towards the path of greatness. You can do whatever you want if you have the power of positive attitude. How you steer your life, depends on how you adjust your attitude; a positive attitude will help you develop a successful career, while a negative attitude will create more problems in your personal life.

Attitude is a state of your mind; it also tests your patience and stress. If you handle your stress with optimism and hope, you'll come out of the clutches of despair and hopelessness. A positive attitude will also ensure that you stay optimistic in whatever do you do and perform in your life. Optimists are effective in countering any form of stress or problem to emerge as ultimate winners, while a pessimist is likely to deny the existence of problem and run away from the source of problem as well. An optimist invariably becomes successful in achieving his cherished goals, while a pessimist can never hope to become successful, because of his negative attitude.

More often the trait of positive attitude is developed from the time we are adolescent A person shows a high degree of positive attitude, if he/she grows in an environment, that is highly positive and immensely hopeful. People with a positive attitude always look at things very positively and respond to any tricky situation with positive answers like, "Yes, I can do it", "It is achievable", "It is perfectly possible" and "I am capable". While negatively inclined people always complain about people and situations and are always pessimistic in what ever they think and do.

If you have been showing an extreme negative attitude in your life and always expecting failure and tragedies, it is now the right time to alter the way you think and behave. It is also a correct time to get rid of those negative thoughts and behavior and achieve cherished goals for a happy life. Here are some of the suggested ways to get rid of those bad, negative feelings and develop right attitude and positive mindset, in their place:

1. When you see the signs of a negative attitude or feelings creeping in your mind, say STOP; instead start visualizing those vividly beautiful pictures of success and contentment.

2. Experts suggest a novel way of stopping negative thoughts from your mind. Though this method is a bit difficult to master, you can try them at your own leisure. Thought stopping process involves two basic stages: a driving mechanism to shoo away all those negative feelings and perceptions and an infiltration mechanism whereby your negative mind is infiltrated with positive thoughts and feelings.

3. Self talk and positive affirmations are known scientific mind principles which can help you develop positive mindset. Develop your own self talk and affirmation statement and start talking to yourself on a regular basis.

4. Another unusual method is to create sticky notes with positive statements like, "I can do it", "I am capable", "Success is mine" and "I have a purpose", and to stick them up on your car dashboard, study table, personal diary, study room cupboard and dining places, where you can see the message everyday and night.

5. Get acquainted with highly successful people with tangible achievements. Right association and acquaintance will make things easy for you to develop positive attitude.

6. Start reading all those positive self help books and magazine. Attend to self help workshops and seminars.

Positive thoughts can only be instilled by you and not by anyone else. It is an internal mechanism and thus it needs your effort and dedication. It may take considerably long time, but it is priceless when you achieve it.

Easy Tips - Easy Positive Attitude

By Gary Gzik

Implementing a positive attitude into your life can have an enormous impact in many areas, and although many of us would love to achieve this desire, we often find it much easier to slip back into bad behaviors and patterns that are negative. It takes a firm commitment towards being positive and finally giving into the idea that it will take time to change old behaviors. And, although there may be times when you can't be positive or you let your attitude slip, the key is not giving up and making a correction to your attitude as soon as you notice.

Implementing a positive attitude may prove challenging, but it doesn't have to be the end of your attempts. Instead of walking away, try some of the following tips and watch as you find it easier to maintain that positive attitude.

TIP 1:

Surround Yourself with Positive Influences

You and I both know that being around someone who has a really negative attitude, without a doubt, will have you showing a negative attitude in a matter of minutes. It doesn't take much influence from another before you will notice that your whole day has been brought down to an unattractive level. Negativity breeds negativity and it fosters discontent. If a positive attitude is what you are seeking, it's important to step back and take a good look at your relationships.

If you want to maintain a positive attitude, you need to surround yourself with positive influences. This statement may sound easy, but the reality is, it also means you need to start spending less time with those who are consistently negative. At first it may be difficult, but lessening your opportunities of being around negative people will prove rewarding in no time, as you start to notice a much happier and lighter you. If avoiding all the negative people in your life isn't easy, then you simply have the option of approaching them about their impact. But, if they aren't ready to change and commit to having a positive attitude, you may need to reduce the amount of time you are spending with them.

TIP 2:

Smile More

It sounds too easy to be true, but that doesn't mean you should disregard it. Smiling more is one of the main secrets to maintaining a positive attitude. What you may not have known, is that smiling releases endorphins which allow you to have a boost in your mood. If you want to maintain a positive attitude, than you should make a commitment to smile at least ten times a day, then increase this number week by week. Make it a game - challenge yourself to see how many other people you can get to smile - whether you know them or not. As you do this, you will notice how much easier it is and how much fun it can be to bring a little joy, not only to your life, but to someone else's life.

TIP 3:

Let it Go

I will be honest with you, this may be the hardest one for you to do. To maintain a positive attitude you need to let go of hurtful things or rude behaviors that have been aimed relentlessly at you. Most of us know that when people hurt us we can become angry and resentful. But, it's time to change "what most of us do". Instead of letting those old negative behaviors back in to fuel our negativity, we need to let the hurt go. Next time, try not to take things personally, even when they hurt. Remember, negative comments, remarks and attitudes belong to the person who said them - not you. By letting things go, you can stay positive.

TIP 4:

Keep Practicing

They say practice makes perfect and that is particularly true when it comes to maintaining a positive attitude. It's simply a matter of creating a new habit, a new pattern that is positive and then practicing it every day. Before long, being positive will become second nature. While we can't be positive all the time, we can make a commitment to be positive most of the time.

Overall, these tips are there to help you, but you need to make a decision that you want to be more positive. If you believe, want and focus on being a more positive you, you will quickly notice how much easier and naturally the previous tips will come naturally to you. So, what are you waiting for - easy tips, easy positive attitude for you!

Positive Attitude - A Panacea For Many Ills

By Harleen K

A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty-Winston Churchill

We have heard many times that positive thinking is a key to health, success and happiness. But seldom do we realize or practice it into our own lives. Positive attitude and optimism can bring in a lot of benefits in our life. A person with a positive attitude lives a healthier, happier and a long life.
Positive thinking is known to provide a direction to our life and its benefits in our day-to-day life. It is one of the most effective strategies for stress management and improves our overall wellbeing.

Now let us know what an attitude really is. An attitude is a state of mind, or a way of thinking which we believe is right. A positive attitude, therefore, can be inculcated into our lives if we earnestly make sincere efforts to do so.

Researchers have always stressed upon the beneficial effects of positive thinking and optimism on our health. An optimistic attitude towards life is instrumental in decreasing negative stress and prepares us better to face the hardships of life.

Positive thoughts help to motivate healthy behaviors including good diet and staying physically active. Remember, when our thoughts are in our control, they can be very powerful. We can reach and maintain good health and fitness with the right attitude.

Studies prove the fact that people with positive outlook towards life are more successful in their efforts to lose weight or follow a fitness exercise regime than people with dwindling mind-set or those who are under confident ones. Self-confidence is the key to successful behavior change.

Psychology finds a strong and a direct relationship between positive attitude and good health. Studies reveal the fact that an optimistic attitude early in life ensures good health and well being in later life.

Christopher Petersen, PhD, in his book, A Primer in Positive Psychology, writes about the benefits of positive attitude in our life. He finds that 'optimism has demonstrable benefits, and pessimism has drawbacks.' He goes on to add further, '..optimism...has been linked to positive mood and good morale; to perseverance and effective problem solving; to academic, athletic, military, occupational, and political success; to popularity; to good health; and even to long life and freedom from trauma.

Your attitude is a matter of your choice. You can choose to have a positive outlook towards life. Once you have made up your mind to think positive, you will start feeling better about yourself and see good results coming your way. So, it is never too late to change your outlook towards life to reap the benefits of a positive attitude.

Living in a highly-competitive world, we might, at some point of time, feel stifled by the stress and strains of life. Here in comes the role of positive thinking to provide a whiff of optimism and help us discover a new meaning in our life. Positive thinking acts as a stimulus to boost our energy levels and recharge us for living life with a positive outlook.

The energy of the mind is the essence of life- says Aristotle.
Life is what we think it should be, or in other words, it is our attitude which colors our thoughts and influences our outlook towards life. Although easier said than done, it becomes all the more important to start taking small but affirmative steps for directing our thought process with a positive attitude towards life. Remember, we become what we think. So, we need to direct our energy towards replacing our negative thoughts with positive thoughts to make life worth living.

While trying to inculcate positive attitude in our lives, we might, at some point of time, get influenced by our own negative thoughts, mood swings, other people moods or other related inconveniences which could result in all our efforts towards positive attitude fall flat. Do not let that happen any more. Inspiration has to come from the mind itself. Bear in mind that every cloud has a silver lining. So, make sincere efforts to maintain your positive attitude to make the most out of life.

The last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way-Viktor Frankl

Start making a commitment to create more productivity in your life. This can be done if you plan your work and work your plan. You need to write down what you want to accomplish and the efforts you will make to get it done.

Know what you want in your life, that is, your aims and goals. Make a list of the things that make you happy, the accomplishments which give you satisfaction. Once you know these things, you have probably found an answer to happiness and success in your life.

A good role model can be of great help in acquiring positive attitude in our lives. You can learn from a successful family member, a colleague or a friend by following in their footsteps.

We need the magic wand of positive attitude and hopeful state of mind to experience a happier life.

How to Develop Positive Attitude

By Matthew Shofoluwe

Attitude is, all too often, evident around us. The supremely confident athlete who presents as if failure is not possible, displays an attitude. The team that shows up and takes control of a game, have an attitude towards the game. The officer who appears to have all the answers, has attitude. Perhaps, what all these people have in common is a thorough knowledge of what it is they are engaged in, or the commitment towards it.

Attitude shows itself in all we do. A person who is madly in love can hardly hide it. The love might be towards a job, car, home or another person. The person who is driven by ambition also has an attitude towards the goal of the ambition. One who is engaged in a task, and thinks the task can be done, might have positive attitude towards the task.
If, for any reason, the person feels it cannot be done, the negative attitude towards the task would see to it that the task becomes impossible.

Why does anybody need positive mental attitude? It is a catalyst, of success. Even where success is possible, positive attitude speeds things up. Considerably.

Positive attitude tips may only be reminders of what we already know, but that in itself is not a bad thing.

How is one to develop positive attitude, if it is lacking?

It starts with self examination. If your ambition is to become, say a healthier person, do you really think it is possible? If yes, what can you positively do about your goal, even today?

Next is the Preparations. The mind is the workshop where we fashion our desires. If you choose to see the positive side of issues, your focus will be on those positives.
With a negative attitude, one is likely to keep seeing problems. The person with a positive mental attitude, in a similar situation, sees challenges.

Exact Plans are necessary in order to develop and maintain a positive mental attitude. Preferably in writing. Perhaps as affirmations. Where plans are lacking, confusion is likely to result.

Positive mental attitude calls for commitment. Mental commitment as well as physical commitment. The person who has a goal, focusses on the goal, works tirelessly towards achieving the goal, reaches a point where the feeling of success is real.

Many a noble objective are derailed by inconsistency! It is very easy to slip back into old patterns of thinking and of seeing things. This is where a written plan, repeated and affirmed comes handy. Positive attitude has to be a habit.

It is said that when our attitude towards a thing change, the thing changes. This has to be practised to be experienced. If a person thinks and feels that something can be done, it will be done.

These positive attitude tips by no means exhausts all there is to know. Practice what you know. Hold yourself to account but also remember to reward yourself for the changes in attitude that you are seeing.

These manner of thought and feeling applies in every area of live. Little wonder it is suggested that attitude is everything.

Benefits of a Positive Attitude

By Gary M. Miller

You have probably heard over and over again that you should have a positive attitude, or that you should think positive thoughts. What you may not have heard about is how you can benefit from a positive attitude or positive thoughts. In fact, there are many benefits to a positive attitude that you may not have ever heard about.

A positive attitude makes you feel better in general. If you decide that you will face your day with a positive attitude, you feel better - both mentally and physically. You will also find that you work more efficiently because when you have a positive attitude, your thinking becomes clearer.

A positive attitude reduces and prevents stress as well. When you are faced with problems, you would not feel as stressed as you would if you had a negative attitude. The positive attitude allows you to look at the situation in a different light, and finding solutions becomes easier.

A positive attitude is contagious. When you are positive in your thoughts, words, and actions, those around you are greatly affected. It may take a little longer to affect some, but with enough exposure to your positive attitude, everyone around you will benefit. Alternately, you are affected by the positive attitudes of those around you.

A positive attitude allows you to sleep better. The positive attitude you have allows you to stop worrying about problems and go to sleep. When you get the proper amount of sound sleep, you are able to continue to be positive the following day, and deal with the problems you had yesterday in a positive way.

A positive attitude allows you to have more productive interaction with others - improving your relationships. You will find that you are better able to focus on the positive aspects of a relationship, as opposed to the negative aspects. The negative aspects of the relationship may even improve greatly - simply because you have a positive attitude.

You entire life is affected in one way or another by your attitude. Your work, learning, personal and business relationships, your health, your self-image, and your confidence all improve and benefit simply by adopting a positive attitude, thinking positive thoughts, and reacting to situations in a positive way.

A Positive Attitude Can Be Contagious!

By Gary M. Miller

Have you ever noticed that when you are around someone who is happy and bubbly, you become happy and bubbly yourself? It is true. This happens because a positive attitude is as contagious as laughter. If someone starts laughing uncontrollably, before you know it, everyone else in the room is laughing -even if they are just laughing at the person who was laughing in the first place. Positive attitudes work just like that.

The contagious positive attitude works in two different ways. First, when you surround yourself with positive people, you eventually have a positive attitude and outlook as well. Second, when you have a positive attitude around negative people, the chances are very good that it will rub off, and their attitude will become positive.

Positive attitudes are contagious to situations as well. If you arrive at a job you hate with a positive attitude, the job does not seem quite so bad. You still may not like it -but somehow your positive attitude made it improve a little. A positive attitude allows you to see things in a different light, and if you try, you can almost find something good in every situation -no matter how bad the situation may seem.

Your positive attitude is even contagious to you! For instance, if you have just effectively solved a problem -with a positive attitude -that attitude will more than likely carry over to the next problem. This makes the problem much easier to deal with. The longer you can maintain that positive attitude, the more powerful it becomes -affecting you and everyone around you. A positive attitude is one contagious thing that you never want to lose, but you always want to spread.

Be careful though. Just as a positive attitude is contagious, a negative attitude is even worse! When you are around people with negative attitudes, you often have to work to make sure that their negatives do not affect your positive. Instead, you must concentrate on passing your positive attitude on to them. Since you can not control other people, this may not always work. Therefore, if you feel like someone's negative attitude is having a negative affect on you, run -do not walk -to the nearest exit!

Positive Attitude Tips - Positive Thinking Requires Elimination of Cognitive Distortions

By Beverly OMalley

Of all the positive attitude tips offered on the many self help resources available the best is to change the way you think. And if it was really that simple then this article would end here.

However, knowing what to do is different from figuring out how to do it. You cannot change the way you are thinking if you are not aware of how you are thinking, so any list of positive attitude tips must include suggestions for self analysis and emotional reflection.

Starting at the beginning it becomes self evident that positive attitude tips can only be offered if we first understand what the word attitude really means.

In everyday common language the word attitude has many meanings, but it is mostly used to refer to a cognitive construct or in simpler terms a "pattern of thinking". Since we cannot see the way a person is thinking, attitude is usually inferred from behaviour. When a person's cognitive construct or way of thinking is positive their behaviour will be interpreted as a "positive attitude".

A positive attitude allows a person to create the life they want because they are not afraid to see things as they really are and work to create their own reality. A positive attitude really reflects a lack of fear in moving forward and creating change.

There are many benefits of a positive attitude including:

* better health
* improved relationships with others both at home and at work
* more opportunities for success
* improved productivity

Let's face it, if there were any benefits to be achieved from maintaining a negative attitude, the literature would be full of negative attitude tips. Instead we find that negative thinking is associated with morbidity and emotional dysfunction. Nobody wants to have a negative attitude yet many people are locked into negative patterns of thinking. They cannot change this pattern because they are not aware of its existence.

So how do you change to a positive attitude?

Developing a positive attitude requires that you become aware of cognitive distortions that are keeping you in a pattern of thinking which forms a barrier to creating the life you really want.

What is a cognitive distortion? It is simply an error in interpretation of our own lived experiences.

It is true that you get your attitude from your parents. But it is only partially true. What happens to you in life is only part of the equation for developing a positive attitude (or cognitive distortions).

Of even greater significance in the development of overall attitude is not what happens but how you interpret what happens. That is the part that you can change and take control of, and that is what must change if you are to get rid of the cognitive distortions that create a negative attitude. Cognitive distortions are nothing more that errors in interpretation and those errors can be changed if identified, examined, and re-interpreted in a positive way.

Think of it this way:

Developing a positive attitude means interpreting life's events in a way that is truthful, honest, and self affirming.

Keeping a positive attitude means continuing with these positive and self affirming interpretations of life's events, even negative events.

The cognitive construct behind a positive attitude would go something like this:

* "Even though this bad thing happened, I am still a good person."
* "I am going to take this opportunity to learn as much about why this happened as I can because I do not want it to happen to me again."
* "I think that perhaps I need some help with this because I do not seem to be able to help myself in a way that is helping to resolve this problem."

The cognitive distortions which would be behind a negative attitude would go something like this:

* " I screwed up again."
* "I am not smart enough to try that."
* "It is not really what I want but it is good enough for me."
* "If I ask for help people will think I am stupid and know that I cannot even run my own life"

It is possible to change your attitude! But it does require identification and critical analysis of your own beliefs about yourself and the life you think you deserve.

Here are 5 positive attitude tips to help you change the way you think:

1. Believe that you are in charge -- your life doesn't just happen to you accidentally. You create it. If you do not accept this fundamental belief no amount of positive attitude tips will help you to manifest the life you want. This does not require bull headed and single minded purpose, but rather a quiet self affirming belief that you do have the power to make a difference in your own life and that everything you do and think and say has created the circumstances you are now experiencing.
2. Live with intent and purpose -- know what it is you want from life and continue to put yourself in charge of obtaining it. When you live reactively you respond to things that are happening to you. Proactive living is when you live with intent, set your own goals, and create a plan to achieve them.
3. Live with emotional inquiry and clarity -- keep examining your emotional reactions to life's events. Ask yourself " What am I feeling right now? When was the first time I felt like this and why am I interpreting this circumstance in the same way." This should help you to uncover those cognitive distortions that prevent you from developing a positive attitude.
4. Practise being grateful -- no matter how unlucky or dreadful you think your life is, practice being grateful for one small thing every day. Thinking about one positive thing every day that you can be grateful for will change the cognitive distortions you have been carrying around.
5. Help and serve others -- find things to do that help other people. You will be amazed at how much better you feel about yourself and how this can change many of those cognitive distortions that may be contributing to your negative attitude.

These are the 5 positive attitude tips that will contribute to a change in the way you think. Once you change the way you think you have the freedom to think more clearly and the wisdom to make choices that will move you forward to the life you want.

Creating a Positive Attitude

By Judy Braley

A positive attitude is a disciplined decision of the mind to maintain a consistently confident expectation of good results. John Terhune

I've learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends on our dispositions and not on our circumstances. Martha Washington

All you need is positivity. The Spice Girls

I'm sure there are people out there who have naturally positive attitudes. People who were blessed to be born with sunny dispositions that weren't destroyed or distorted by the negativity of others (parents, teachers, siblings or friends) as they grew up.

There must be people out there like this - but I am not one of them. I've suffered from complaining and negative emotions in the past, however, I have learned how to create a positive attitude in my life. For those of you who, like me, were not blessed with a positive attitude as our constant state of being, here are suggestions of how to develop and maintain one.

1. Take responsibility

Know that you are the only person who can create and control your attitude. When the coffee spills on your new white shirt, when your spouse/significant other acts like a ____(fill in the blank), when you don't get the job you were dying for - these are all times when you have a choice of how to respond. Outside events can't create your attitude. You create your attitude in response to how you think about the event. It's all up to you. The outside world will always throw challenges in your path. You have to decide how you are going to respond to those challenges, and you can pick whether to respond negatively or positively. No one else can choose for you.

2. Foster a great attitude

The best way to do this is to feel good about yourself! How can you possibly project a positive attitude if inside you are beating yourself up? You have to develop a positive confident view of yourself in order to project this to the world. If you lack in confidence or you put yourself down, try one of the following exercises:

* Every day catch yourself doing something well and praise yourself for it!

* At the end of the day, instead of listing for yourself all the things you didn't accomplish, think of all the things you did accomplish and praise yourself for that.

* This came from an article in Positive Thinking magazine - if you find you put yourself down, become aware of it by putting a loose rubber band around your wrist and every time you notice negative thoughts about yourself, snap the rubber band on your wrist and change the thought to something positive. You will get tired of the stinging snap of the rubber band and should find yourself thinking more positively about yourself because it will become a habit.

* If your lack of confidence comes from childhood abuse, get help at releasing that toxic negative residue. Know that just because some adult told you you were bad or you couldn't do anything right, it doesn't mean it's true. Get help from a therapist, books, or seminars to clear out this old lie.

3. Work at it

Maintaining a positive attitude in the face of all of the daily challenges in life can be daunting, but you can do it. It's a personal choice to believe the best about any situation. Start to become aware of what you are thinking and saying.

The other day I heard a friend complain that she could only catch her negative thinking about half the time before she reacted and got angry or started crying. And my response was that half the time is pretty darn good. That's a long way from where she started when she was completely unaware of how her negative thoughts controlled and created her life.

We are all works in progress! Work at it - gently correct yourself when you've gone the wrong way and praise yourself when you get it right! Teaching yourself to have a positive attitude takes gentle but consistent work, just like training a puppy.

4. Find other people who have positive, energy-filled attitudes and develop relationships with them

When you are working on a positive attitude, you have to choose your friendships wisely. If you have someone in your life who radiates positive energy, try to spend more time with that person. If you don't have anyone like that, try to find someone and develop a friendship.

It's a law of the universe - positive people will energize you, and negative people will deplete you unless you have developed such a strong positive attitude that you can protect yourself mentally against their negativity.

5. Find your purpose and dare to dream

How can you create a positive attitude if you don't look forward to anything? Maybe some people can, but I can't. I have written before about finding your purpose and passion in life in my article Top 10 Ways to Create an Unlimited Life (Numbers 8 & 9). Here I'm going to talk about your dreams.

Do you still have dreams or have they been squashed out of you as you've gotten older? Dare to dream again! You can do much more in your life than limited thinking will lead you to believe. To create and maintain a positive attitude for yourself, you have to develop a mindset that tomorrow can be more fulfilling than today. Your dreams are your vision of success. And if it's strong enough, it is that vision that will sustain you when you face the inevitable set backs and challenges in life that everyone faces.

Dare to dream of what you want in life and commit to taking a step toward that vision every day and you will go a long way toward your goal of having a positive attitude.

6. Protect your ears and eyes

The great majority of the population of this world does not live life from the space of a positive attitude. In fact, I believe the majority of the population of this world lives from a place of pain, and that people who live from pain only know how to spread more negativity and pain. For me, this explains many of the atrocities of our world and the reason why we are bombarded with negativity all the time.

To create and maintain a positive attitude, you have to protect yourself from this negativity and pain. Be careful what you read, watch, and listen to. So much of what's produced in the media is packed with negativity. When you are working hard at creating your positive attitude, don't watch the news or any tv shows that have to do with violent crime. If something really important happens in the world, you'll hear about it anyway. If part of your purpose is to help other people who are suffering, then learn what you need to know, but don't expose yourself to unnecessary negative information. For example, unless you have a loved one on the plane, if you are in the US do you really need to know about a small jet that crashed in Russia? That's negative news that can cause you emotional sadness, but that you can't do anything about.

As far as tv shows are concerned, I have to admit to being addicted to watching CSI for while - until I really thought about how I was polluting my own mental and emotional state by being exposed to excessively violent acts, even if they were fictitious!

7. Read and listen to positive, inspiring material

Why read or listen to something negative when you can replace it with something positive that will inspire or motivate you to create more happiness, peace or success in your life? There is so much motivational material out there these days. Go to the bookstore or check out all the motivational cds available from Nightingale-Conant. When you immerse yourself in positive, motivating material, you can't help but absorb some of it.

8. Celebrate yourself and all the positive you can find in your life

Okay, maybe this is a repeat of Number 2 above, but it's a concept that merits repeating. Celebrate who you are, the positive things you contribute to the world, and the positive things that are happening in your life. It doesn't matter how small they are!

What you focus on expands. If you focus on the negative, you will experience more negative. If you celebrate the positive, you will notice more of it showing up in your life. Realize that you have a very limited vision of this world, and that something you perceive as negative might really be a positive - you can never really know ahead of time. Mentally celebrate everything that you possibly can.

Conclusion

These are suggestions for developing a positive attitude from someone who has definitely had to work on it every day. When I wake up, I imagine a positive day ahead of me. When I'm faced with violence or bad news on the tv or radio, I turn it off. I listen to motivational cds in the car while I'm driving. And before I fall asleep, I think of the things in my life that I'm grateful for. I'm not always positive and radiant and joyful, but I am most of the time, and each day I progress further. And I can guarantee you life is much more fulfilling with a positive attitude.

Somebody I know who is very wise once said: "Lot's of people will tell you this positive attitude thing is a bunch of garbage. Well, that may be, but I'd rather believe in a positive bunch of garbage than in their negative bunch of garbage."

Me too. How about you?

Tips For Maintaining A Positive Attitude

Highly successful people exhibit an impeccable attitude of positive behavior and there is nothing these people cant achieve in their life.

If you handle your stress with optimism and hope, youll come out of the clutches of despair and hopelessness.

People with a positive attitude always look at things very positively and respond to any tricky situation with positive answers like, Yes, I can do it, It is achievable, It is perfectly possible and I am capable.

4. Another unusual method is to create sticky notes with positive statements like, I can do it, I am capable, Success is mine and I have a purpose, and to stick them up on your car dashboard, study table, personal diary, study room cupboard and dining places, where you can see the message everyday and night.

Amp Your Attitude Today!

How often do you walk into Starbucks, go to the coffee pot at home or work, grab some chocolate or a bag of chips, or buy your favorite caffeinated beverage looking for just a little more juice, something to energize you, or to amp up your day just a little bit (there’s even an energy drink named Amp!)?

Sure you may like the taste of those treats, and even gain some temporary energy, but they aren’t a complete answer to your energy and attitude challenges.

Here are seven specific things you can do at any time (including right now) to amp up your energy and attitude – with no caffeine crash or calories!

Amp Your Attitude

- Take action first. Dale Carnegie taught, “Act enthusiastic, and we’ll be enthusiastic.” He was right. Actions impact thoughts. Don’t believe me? Ever gotten up and drug yourself around the house trying to get your day started? How much energy do you feel on those mornings? Compare that to the mornings when you hop out of bed because you are late. In which case do you have more energy in the moment?

- Assume you can. How many new ideas (or even old ideas) are immediately met with “that won’t work,” or “we can’t do that”? Maybe you can’t, and maybe it won’t. But what if everyone started with the assumption that you could do it and that it would work? I’m not saying every idea is great or that you can do everything. But it does mean that ideas can be investigated from a perspective of can-do and hope. This approach will definitely create a better attitude – and better results.

- Have some fun. Take time out of your day (right now?) and have some fun! I’m not suggesting forgetting or neglecting your work – but approaching your day with the spice of fun. What happens to your attitude when you are laughing? (My point exactly.)

- Look for the good. Look for the good in the day, in the situation, in other people. Look for the good in ideas (we’ve already covered that one!), challenges and problems. Just look for the good – all around you. Once you choose to look for it – you will find it. And, your attitude will improve, guaranteed.

- Take off your black hat. In many situations I hear, “but someone needs to be the devil’s advocate.” In my experience the same people are always the devil’s advocate. If you always wear the black hat, take it off for awhile. If work with the black hat, ask for a black hat moratorium in your office for an hour, a day or a week. Even if you work by yourself, you will amp your attitude by being an angel’s advocate today.

- Change your environment. Maybe you can’t change the paint in your surroundings (and you certainly can’t do it right now), but you can change your environment. If you find yourself heading to the ‘dark side,’ get up from your desk. Walk around the office or outside. Do anything to change your perspective and you will improve your attitude – the brief bit of exercise won’t hurt either.

- Smile. I’ve saved the simplest and easiest for last. Smile. When you smile you feel better. When you smile – and others see it – they smile too (try it) and then you feel even better. If you want to amp your attitude right now, smile (it takes less than a second).

You can do any (or all) of these things right now. They are each a choice. Some may be easier for you, so it might be smart to start there. Start there, but don’t stop there – implement these ideas and make your attitude (and results) soar!

Potential Pointer: There is real value in having a good attitude. Not the least of which is that people with positive attitudes are the ones others want to work with and be around! There are very specific things you can do every day to improve your attitude, and there’s no time like the present to start.
